Ammonium nitrate (AN)

Product description

The Ammonium nitrate (AN) is that kind of fertilizers without which the modern agriculture is practically impossible. It belongs to the category of nitrogen fertilizers and has universal application. Half of it is nitrogen in an ammonium form, the rest is nitrate. Nitrogen of the ammonium nitrate is absorbed immediately by the plants, while ammonium nitrogen is digested only after nitrating. The Ammonium nitrate trades in large quantities, because it has excellent solubility in water and is absorbed very well by the soil. This fertilizer can be used in combination with calcium ammonium nitrate and ammonium sulphate nitrate.

The nitrogen in the ammonium nitrate absorbs faster in the soil in comparison to that in the urea or the ammonium sulphate. Crops digest nitrogen mainly in the form of nitrate. Ammonium nitrogen must be converted to nitrate in the soil, and only then it becomes effective. Urea is causing damage to the seedlings due to volatilization of the ammonia.

Ammonium nitrate and ammonium sulphate are strongly acidic fertilizers. The ammonium nitrate is proposed in white granules with size of 1 to 4 mm and contains 34.4% nitrogen. This crystal form is highly hygroscopic. The fertilizer is highly water soluble, less effective than urea in aquas rice or other ammonium nitrate fertilizers. This product is more likely to be washed away than the other ammonium products. The ammonium nitrate is a powerful oxidising agent - it easily explodes, when it is near a heat source or flame. Due to the above mentioned qualities, the ammonium nitrate and its compounds are stored in a dry place in sealed bags.

The granule shape is easily stored, and easily spread over the soil. The ammonium nitrate and the other ammonium fertilizers leave in the soil acid sediment. The acidity elicited by 1 kg of ammonium nitrate, ought to be neutralized by 800 grams of lime. The ammonium nitrate and the urea are the most widely used nitrogen-containing fertilizers compared to all solid fertilizers.
